Software Architect and Development Manager - London

We want to hear from you if you have a background in a Software Architect and Development Manager role and have the following experience: 

As part of the R&D division within Monitise, the development manager is responsible for line management and technical governance of a team of engineers, both onshore and offshore.

Managing a team of approximately 50 individuals (35 onshore; 15 offshore) with a mix of skills and levels (graduate, senior developers, development leads, technical architects and SCM); you will be responsible for communicating and governing architectural design and development processes and procedures.

Although the scope and focus of the day to day activities within the role will change dependent on business requirements, the following should be considered the core accountable activities:

Management

• Performance measurement and analysis of offshore development team (approximately 15) to ensure efficiency and continuous performance improvements.
• Recruitment and mentoring of new team members (including interview assessment of offshore staff additions).
• Identification of teams training and development needs and strategies
• Formulating objective, KPI’s and performance standards across team.
• Career development and bi-annual review of direct line reports
• Salary and bonus management

Experience

• Experience of software architecture design and maintenance
• Experience of developing, architecting and/or managing highly transactional, highly available real time applications
• In depth understanding of the full software development lifecycle
• In depth understanding of UML, OO Design and Design Patterns
• Experience with working with outsourced development teams

The successful Software Architect and Development Manager will have worked as a Senior Developer in their previous roles with exposure to the following technology:

• Java
• J2EE (EJB 2.1, EJB 3, JSP, Servlets, MDB, JCA
• MVC Framework
• RDBMS design
• Agile methodology (SCRUM)
• Dependency injection frameworks
• JUnit Testing or Test NG
• Web services experience – REST/ SOAP
